With the Nintendo 3DS’ March 27th launch only a couple months away, Nintendo is clearly focused on all things concerning the successor to what is arguably one of their most popular platforms to date. From last year’s successful E3 unveiling to their recent presser when they revealed a release date and price, gamers have been getting hyped for the hottest new system. Of those features, the 3DS eStore was certainly near the top of gamers’ lists of things they were most excited for, and playerFIVE has got some great news for you: Previously believed to become available post-launch, Nintendo has confirmed that the 3DS eStore will be available on March 27th, 2011.
For those that aren’t in the know, the 3DS eStore is where Nintendo will post game demos, trailers, (3?)DSiWare games and applications, and most exciting, retro Game Boy titles. Presumedly titled “Virtual Handheld”, the big N will make Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles (what the hell, Nintendo?! Bring on Game Boy Advance!) available for those that like a side of nostalgia with their gaming. Despite not being available for purchase at launch, Nintendo did confirm that fan favorites Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening will show up on the store at some point. Here’s hoping a slew of other classic Game Boy games will be available, and the wait to purchase them won’t be long.
If you’re like me, you’ll be spending a lot of time playing classic handheld games that you missed out on. What Game Boy and Game Boy Color games do you want to see on the eStore? What’s your favorite old-school Nintendo handheld game? Are you holding out hope that Nintendo will announce Game Boy Advance titles will be up for sale as well? Will you even be buying a 3DS, or is the price tag too ridiculous?
